It's our first morning in Custer and we started out before sunrise in search of Elk. We headed south on 87 and boom a herd of Elk with a strutting male. I was able to get a few silhouette photos and one with him bulging against a beautiful pink and purple sky. I used one of the photos of the Elk on todays blog. Then off to dirt roads in the Wind Cave National Park. A few more Elk herds were spotted, but they were off in the distance. This is a beautiful area with rolling hills and expansive prairies. we connected back to Custer on more beautiful dirt roads. many Pronghorn (Antelope), Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer and Turkey were out near the road. As we entered back into Custer's Loop Road we came upon a huge herd of Bison (Buffalo). Bulls were posturing, knocking heads, sticking out their blue tongues, and snorting at each other. The young Bison stayed close to their moms and pranced with other calfs. Rested a bit in the afternoon and then found some new dirt roads we haven't explored yet. A glorious day.
