Arriving to Custer State Park

We took our last sunrise drive through the Badlands. It was a clear morning without a cloud in the sky so the sunrise was very brief. We watched the colors change on the eroding buttes and spires. It was relaxing to watch the animals lazily grazing. The Badlands has a total of 3 Units which covers 240,000 acres.  The Badlands Wilderness area cover 64,000 acres.  This is a photo of the sunrise this morning at Homestead Overlook.

We returned to our RV, packed up and drove the back roads through Scenic to Custer State Park in South Dakota. When we arrived at Custer it was like coming home. We have stayed here many times and enjoy spending time in the beauty this park bestows. As soon as we set up we jumped in our Jeep and took off to explore the Loop Road. I winds throughout the park. This park is so diverse with its granite spears piercing the sky,  Spruce forests, prairies where herds of bison roam, crisp clear flowing streams, and amazing sunsets and sunrises.
